My mechanics are having problems installing a superram on my 85 engine, yesterday they were getting vacuum leaks (causing high idle) found out it was an odd gasket (bottem runner to plenum box). Today they got it all bolted back and fired it up and let run for 20 minutes (sounded fine) but thats when they got antifreeze mix leaking around the back of manifold area of S.R. Anyone else have problems ?? its an 85 model.
Only problem Iever had with the superram was when someone installed it who didn't know wtf thye were doing, causing antifreeze to leak INTO the lifter valley..
Other than that, one of the simplest things to mistake is to reverse the left vs right side runners as they WILL fit, just will leak vacuum like a vacuumcleaner.
I've had mine off about 5 times in the past 2 years. no sweat.
I would say that they messed up when they did the intake gasket.Make sure when they do it again to leave all the bolts in the plenum to runners loose till they have all the bolts started. this on the intake to runners to plenum..
All I can say is to buy yourself some "right stuff" gasket sealer...and use is generously. When you think you put enough on, put more on. Let it set for an evening and pray to god you don't have to be the one to remove it! Worked many times for me when I ran it, and of course as mentioned....make sure you have proper runner on the proper side.
I used the gasket sealer on EVERY bolt too...its a nightmare to assemble, but the results are worth it. However, can't say I miss it either.
I did have a problem with driver side second from back bolt leaking antifreeze. I sealed the bolt up with the white thread tape.
I also agrea with Jesse on using sealer - I used copper sealer and used plenty of it. A SR is an intake leak waiting to happen.

"right stuff"- check, "generously"-double check, "pray" triple check, you for got "cus a lot " at least it worked for me. good luck...
Sounds like someone needs to update these aftermarket TPI manifold castings....Awful lot of fitment problems with them. Just an observation.
I'd be lit id I paid $1200 for something that doesn't fit right.

Never once have I had a vacuum leak on mine.. I have had the thing off and on I would imagin 10x or more. Done install for other people and never had a problem.

I used about a half of a tube on mine, I put copperseal on it everywhere there was a connection and have had no problems in 2 years.

One of the other threads here pointed out that it's more the GASKETS that are the problem - out of maybe 6 or 7 sets surveyed, half of them were cut to different dimensions or centerlines. They were bought from different places but were all branded the same.

My SR came off a couple of times also. Mainly to replace a collapsed lifter and once for a faulty gasket(40,000 miles and a small leak of anti-freeze).
I never experienced a vacuum leak either like 0096.
ski_dwn it certainly has the right idea to help it seal.
