Default Installed TPIS 52mm TB

I got my car back late yesterday after having a TPIS 52mm throttle body installed by my local shop. I'm so glad I gave it to them to install. Turns out I really didn't have the time after all and it was a PITA to install as all the bolts were seized. Heck the car is 20 years old and has 100K miles on it.
Any way, the weather cleared late night and I was able to go for a ride. All I can say is wow. There must have been something major wrong with the old TB as this mod made a ridiculous difference in the vette's performance. I suspect that the TPS was out of adjustment or something.
Now the engine pulls harder, faster and smoother. I can't describe just how much of a diference there is. I'm always wary of my butt dyno after spending money on mods, but in this case, the improvements are just so obvious that its crazy.

On a nearly stock 350 SBC engine going to a 52mm TB has no noticible effect on power, so I agree that something was out of adjustment with your old system.

The bolts that were frozen were the ones under the TB that hold the housing for the IAC. This housing must be removed from the old TB and transfered to the new one. After breaking off one or two of these little bolts during a TB change on my IROC I used lots of PB Blaster on the Vette's TB before tackling the job and all those little bolts just came right out.

Anyway, congrats on getting your Vette's performance back, enjoy.

that could have been one of the reasons, but more than likely your old TB was full of SLUDGE that gets trapped behind the blades, sometimes cleaning it with cleaner is not enough, only removing it and scrubbing and soaking it with solvent cleans it,or replacing it does the trick like you did.a 52mm TB compared to a 48mm TB on a stock L98 engine wont give a SOTP improvement that noticeable

I agree, I only bought the 52mm TB because I knew my original was shot. But then again, I bought the car with the 100K miles already on it and it did have the exhaust already modified and the K&N with cut lid. Maybe one of the previous owners also changed the cam? Who knows, all I care about is the vette is working really well right now Next for me is long tube headers if the 4+3 holds together. Otherwise its a Keisler 5 speed.

Yep, I'm game for trying the track. I've never run on the drap strip before, so it should be interesting. I was reading all the rules for the track. Have to drain all antifreeze, etc. Lots of pre race work to be done. I think I'll go to a couple of events and check out the track a bit closer before I take my car.

Let me know what goes down. I'm a virgin to the track also

i'd tell this track to shove it. drain ALL antifreeze? i'm thinkin that's really not good for your engine...especially if you're stuk in the staging lanes forever like at our "local" track. my vette gets up to 230 in the lanes...if there wasn't anything in there i'd be replacing motors after every run!

Sorry, I should have siad drain antifreeze and replace with water I guess thet don't want cars overheating and losing antifreeze all over the place. But it is a pain in the but to have do this just to take a couple of runs down the track.

Default 52mm Throttlebody

I replaced my stock 48 for a 52 at extremefi.com and i definetly could feel a SOTP difference both at throttle response and just plain low end grunt. old t/b had a worn shaft only and i kept it clean, adjusted to spec always. This is a great improvement.
