i have a 1990 L-98...700r4...150,000 on the clock...sending it in to have the trans rebuilt third gear is gone...any tips and tricks prior to giving it to the shop...also what should i be asking the shop about...for example a return of all the old parts etc...anyone have this done before can you share some wisdom...thanks...bjc
Most shops just do a "standard" rebuild with stock type components. I had mine rebuilt with a B&M master rebuild kit which replaces almost every part in the trans, includes 9 friction clutches, kevlar lined band, pump upgrade, sungear shell...etc. What isn't included in the kit and was reccomended to me by the shop owner to be replaced were the sprags.
I would ask the shop about the pieces they use, how many clutch packs, any mods done to the trans. And fer gawd's sake have them replace the sungear shell with one called "the beast", this is the weakest link in the entire trans.

What are your long term future plans? If you plan to make more torque you can build the trans accordingly. If you are gonna keep it stock, there is not much need for serious beefing up.You can spend big money on upgrades that may not be needed.
