Default How many miles?

How many miles should it take for the PCM to do the O2 and Catalyst monitoring in my 96? Is it done by miles or start cycles? Yesterday it took 20 miles and failed. I made some changes and think I have it solved. Today I have driven farther than that and all still looks good. I need to go to emissions and pass this time via OBDII. Last time they put it on the rollers and that won't happen again. My car is too low and those guys can't drive for beans.

Default Does it have to be from a cold start?

Does it have to be from a cold start? I drove for about an hour and a half, catalyst testing didn't complete. No codes but no complete test on the catalyst. On the good side, I get to drive a great car. On the bad side, my tags go away soon. I am going to try again tomorrow and....

Wish me luck,

There is a sequence of events which must take place. I dont think 30 min will do it. Mine wouldnt pass because previous owner reprogrammed the ECM.

Here is a link to reset the GM driving cycle. It MUST be followed. What a PIA

http://www.obdii.com/drivecycle.html

I had to get mine set to GM specs for it to pass.

Thanks Ray, I will give it a shot. I wonder if the ASR switch should be on or off. I think I will try with it off to avoid the computer pulling timing or fuel. Thanks again for the link.
