Can someone tell me the mechanism used to prevent the car from cranking over when you don't have the clutch pushed in. Is it a switch that works off the clutch pedal arm inside the car, or does it work off the clutch fork. My car won't crank everytime you turn the key. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't!! My hydraulic system needs to be bled. The clutch is slightly engaged even with the clutch fully depressed, and it will grab as soon as you start to lift the peddle off the floor. When you shift into reverse it grinds and shifting into first gear can be alittle difficult. I'm hoping the no crank condition is due to the hydraulics needing to be bled. The car has sat for three years. When I did get it to crank it started right up and ran pretty darn good for a car that hadn't been started for soo long! Mike
The clutch safety switch is hooked to the pedal linkage inside the car. Bad hydraulics will have no effect on the function of the clutch switch.
The easy way to check the switch is to jumper the harness end of the clutch switch connector with a 12 gauge wire. If the switch is bad, you may want to consider cutting the connector off of the old one and splicing the wires together. Once you've seen where the switch is located, you'll know why I suggest this instead of replacing the switch.
