My '91 Helms manual shows a Radio Speaker Amplifier Relay mounted behind the I/P down low just above the kick panel. It's the first relay next to the right side of the steering column.

Not sure if that helps but there ya go.
Nope, the 91 is in a different place.. I will look in my 89 manual if I remember when I get home
If you could see through the breadbox, you would see it in the bottom left corner. It is attatched to the left side of the dash support brace by two 7 or 8mm head screws. Its a pain to get to and if you manage to get your hands on it, pull off the connector and leave the relay there. Plug in your new relay and stuff it somewhere up there
I was lucky because mine came with breadbox delete. 6 screws and i was in.
Just replaced it on my '85 and it was a breeze... There is a kick panel that is black plastic above the passengers feet. This is held on by threee screws that are easy to get to - pull them out and then drop the panel by pulling it sideways towards the door so it clears the heating duct... Then, unplug the lighting wire so you can get it out of there...
Next, put your butt in the seat, your feet over the headrest, and your head down in the footwell. Staring straight up, the relay is just above your right eye with the connector pointing straight down. Unplug it, plug in the new one, stuff it up in there, and leave the old one mounted where it is...
On my car, the radio would just quit making sound even though everything else worked. Once I found the realy, the sound came back the second I touched the connector. When I pulled the connecter, there was this black goo all over the contacts - I assume that was the old realy melting down? Anyway - cleaned the goo off the connector and replaced it with an $11 unit from Autozone - part #MR5 and we are back in business. Good Luck! - Chuck :-)
