Default Quick coil change question

When changing the coil or coil module, the manuals say to apply silicone grease to certain surfaces to improve cooling. I assume the silicone dialectric grease the GM sells in tubes is the right type to use? Thanks.

I'm not sure about the GM Brand but when I just replaced my module it came with a little packet of the grease.

No that is not correct. The special grease that comes with a brand new plate is heat sink compound grease. I just finished doing this.

You can get it at Radio Shack, ask for heat sink compound. PN 276-1372A. It was something like 4.95 its only .23 oz. You apply about four .25 gram dabs of it on the plate. Or basically four globs. I choose to use a spreader and create a uniform layer.

If you use dielectric or other silcone you will be replacing the coil in very short order.

Good luck. (I chose to work on a cool engine and those bolts get very little torque.)

Thanks--I'm glad I asked. I guess the thermal grease they sell for computer CPU heatsinks is also the same thing.

Yep that's it. Me too I asked about this a week or so ago in General and it took me a bit to locate this stuff. I was lucky as the Radio Shack around the corner carries it.
