I've hears and read various things about Eagle and Scar rods over the years. Some have suggested good quality and other have suggested poor quality about these brands.
In the 400HP + environment are there any comments about mfg. Aside from forged, I-Bean, H-Beam I am more interested in comments about brand quality.

In the 400 to 500Hp range you can even use the GM PM rods which are every bit as strong as the old GM Pink rods. Quality wise the Scat, and Eagle H beam 4340 rods are comparable in quality. As long as RPMs stay below 7000 RPM these will hold up fine. Crowers are a much better rod and much lighter. But also costs considerably more. As for bang for the buck, the Scat and Eagles are the way to go for most street engines. Go above 550hp, I would definitely go for the Crowers, Lunati's, Olivers or other similar brands. The last two high power LT1s I worked on had Lunati billet rods installed. These are good for 1000+ hp.
The owner of the machine shop that is going to do my block work showed me some used parts he had laying around from both Scat and Eagle. He builds a lot of dirt track motors with occasional drag motors. He had several Eagle pieces that had broke before their time, ie a set of Eagle H beam forged rods that broke after only a few passes. He likes to use Scat if he is buying the internals (but will install anything if you bring him the parts, hence the aformentioned Eagle stuff). According to him, he has had very few Scat pieces (cast cranks and forged rods) that have broke on him.
I used Scat 4340 H Beams in 5.7 length on my 381 build. Being more accustomed to factory forgings, etc, they Scats seemed like jewels-nicely finished, floating pins, ARP cap screws installed.
I turn mine routinely to 6900 rpm for the last 15,000 miles-no defects noted.
