i have an 86 with a rebuilt engine, the engine is worked up pretty good. somtimes it feels like the car hauls ***, and then sometimes it seems like i have to put the petal to the metal and it goes nowhere( slowly climbs up the rpms). does anyone have any idea what this could be? i have a reburned chip, but it was not dyno tuned. all sensors are new.
my only ideas are,
old fuel pump ( what would it feel like if i wasnt getting enough gas?)
improperly burned chip
long tube hooker headers (postiion of where the 02 sensor is)
tps
Right now the engine has
edelbrock runners and base manifold
474. int/exh cam
vortec heads
long tube hooker headers
24 lb injectors
burned chip
gee... my first guess is temperature. If it's warm, or even HOT, the amount of O2 in the atmosphere is lower (density).
I would get it dyno tuned... just to be sure. That might find the problem.
If it was a slow pump, it would happen all the time, I would think.
My other guess is a questionable ECU... if you have access to a scan tool, I would use it. Monitor and record the engine data and see if there is any difference in data to performance.
How loud is your exhaust?
Ive heard some loud ones activate the knock sensors which would retard timming and cause a loss of power.
Just a guess good luck.
i have a new free flow cat and flowmaster mufflers and hooker headers l/t. the exhaust has a good grumble but its not that loud. i wonder if it is somthing with the knock sensor. somtime when i hit the gas the rpms will pause before continuing to rise. they stop at about 2500 rpm most of the time just for like 2-3 seconds and then continue to rise.
