Default Blower piston and rods?

Want to stroke my L98 this fall. What pistons and rods will hold up to boost. Want 500 + hp of dependable rwhp.Running stock now with Pb 600 10lbs intercooled. Getting to slow.

Isn't about 500rwhp where you want to have a 4 bolt main? If I was looking for those numbers, I'd just droop in a crate motor with a forged bottom end. By the time you work over your two bolt L98, youwould have spend less money on a crate.

I have seen a few on the net, but they usually have high compression. I'm sure one of the people offering them would swap pistons though.

Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Your block would be fine, but you should consider converting to splayed main caps. It will be stronger than a stock 4 bolt.
Rods? Either a very high quality I-beam rod (Oliver, ect) or a good steel H-beam rod. JE makes a good blower piston.

I would also look into coating your pistons tops and combustion chambers while you have it apart. This can be a real engine saver on FI cars... As far as pistons/rods/crank, I'd talk with your engine builder/machine shop. They will have plenty of insight into what is quality and what is not. You might save a few $$ on cheaper parts, but spend it on getting the parts to balance and fit properly.

Personally, I went with Callies, Manley, and Wiseco with coated everything including main bearings....

Default Lots of options

It really depends on your personal budget.

Low Budget:
If you are on a low budget buy the Eagle SIR and some Speed Pro forged pistons. This is NOT the top of the line package but it will more than work for 500 rear wheel horsepower.

Moderate Budget:
If your budget is moderate I would buy Eagle H Beam rods with the upgraded bolts and some SRP forged pistongs.

Top Budget
If you are willing to buy top shelf parts I would strongly consider a 4340 Callies crank, JE, JE/SRP or Ross pistons, Oliver Billet Rods, splay the bottom end. Buy Cometic's gaskets.

That sums it up pretty well. Just keep in mind if you go low budget and want more power down the road, you will risk blowing your motor, or need to build a new motor. I would think real hard of what your goals are now and for the future.

You can get to the 500+RWHP goal with a 350/355 combo with decent heads/cam/intake combo and the P-600B. The trick is to spin the motor to the 6000 RPM range.

If you insist on stroking the L-98, just stuff a 4" stroke crank, Oliver billets (5.85"), JE customs, splay the caps, run decent heads/cam/intake and the blower. This combo will yield RWHP way beyond the 500 RWHP goal with proper tuning. This is the combo I run now. You will find that most will tell you that a 4" rod can not be run in the factory L-98 block, but with the right rods, it can be done.

All of these high HP combos are very dependent on the heads/cam/intake. It will not get there with a long runner and D-port heads.

Let me know if you have questions.
