That theres not quite a bit of power in a stock L98 left in tuning...
Check this out,
Granted, its not much peak difference but look between 2400 and 3600 rpm
This car is a bone stock auto L98. It had unknown injectors out of a wrecked car which kinda threw us a curve ball. The guys work at a sorta Fbody salvage place and we where able to get this out of the way while his coworkers where out to lunch. The red run was with the stock injectors stock tune.. and the blue was after injectors and tuning. I would have rather him leave the factory injectors in it... but he swapped them out before i got there.
Flattened it out nicely. Curious, was it a MAF or MAP car? And which code, 32, 32B, 6E or just 8D if S/D?
It was 8D,
they smooth out nicely when you put some nice timing in them, the factory runs them pretty slack and in this case it was in the high 11's in that area from the factory
I got similar results on a 87 L98 tonight on the dyno. While the gains were not great, the tune helped overall drivability. The customer had complained about a flat spot or rather where the power went flat between 3500 and 4000. Mind you this is a blower application with a 6 PSI Pro-Charger that I was working on. It had a FMU which caused me a little headache as I didn't have enough time to remove it and tune with out the FMU in line. With some timing map massages and PE fueling changes the AFR came well within my targets. Once that was acheived the flat spot in the power curve went away, although peak torque and power was not much different than before. Not to mention the engine had very safe AFR levels as wel. This relatively stock engine with the Pro-Charger made about 270Hp on my stingy Mustang. Which is about what the Pro-Charger people claimed that their kits would acheive.
