Default Header question???

Can someone tell me the difference between an aftermarket header for an l98 and that of a lt1?I mean if you don't want emissions tube won't one fit the other. The exhaust ports are the same right?I am asking because I have never owned an lt1 but will be installing lt1 heads and intake on my 89 soon.
Thanks for any help,
Duane Hawley

The exhaust ports are the same, yes, and both will bolt to the heads of either. However, they do not place the collector in the same place, so you will have some clearance issues with some brands.

LT1 heads will not work on your L98 as they are reverse cooled.

Oh contrare, they will work if you modify them.It is easy if you have access to a machie shop.It also helps that I have a plasma arc cutter and tig set up at home .There is also a guy you can send them to to have them modified for early block use.I can email you pics if you like! This is a great upgrade for any l98.I will be selling them soon already modified with larger valves and pocket ported or fully ported.
Thanks,
Duane Hawley

Ok, I'll bite... why??? Why go through the enormous effort of doing all of this to fit LT1 heads on an L98? Why not go with aftermarket heads? May not be cheaper but definately be easier, less time consuming, and if you buy the right brand, perform better.

Back to the original topic, so as far as headers go, there is absolutely no difference between the LT1 headers and L98 headers (aside from the already mentioned clearance issue)? Any specifics on the "clearance issue" and solutions to getting an LT1 header on an L98?
