Hello,
I need a little help. I want to remove the front bumper cover on my '91 coupe in order to adjust or replace my front turn signal/fog light housing (passenger side). Has anyone else done this? How hard is the cover to remove and replace? Is it a one-man job or will I need help with alignment, fitment, etc? Any advice / photos would be greatly appreciated. (I have a GM service manual but I think it is a little vague)
TIA.
Glen
The bumper is held on by a lot of bolts/screws. along the fender wells, along the top, and underside around the air dam. Now it is a little difficult to get the the bolts along the top with the hood in place. What I would do (I've done it both ways) is unscrew the ones on the fender wells and underside. Then there are 4 nuts that hold the entire front assembly on to the frame rails. If you go this route I would suggest a friend to help hold it though. Once you undo those 4 nuts then the entire assembly comes off as one piece (only problem is when you go to reinstall you will have to toy with the adjustment of these as the holes are slotted for being able to align it to the hood), of course you'll have to undo the wiring harness from the light sockets and I think a few mount places. The other way doesn't require a helper, but like I said the hood gets in the way of undoing the bolts along the top edge of the bumper cover, and there is a metal strip that goes all the way across and sandwhiches the bumper cover on that you'll have to remover without scratching your hood. I've done it this way but my hood was already off for repair, I wouldn't attempt it with the hood on. If you go look at it you will understand what I'm talking about.
