Guys,
I am knew to this so I need some help!
I go to stores and they all have code readers but they don't list 1994 corvettes.
Who makes a low cost code reader and what is the model number?
Does anyone have one the want to sell?
I do accept charity!

Check, with Auto X-ray. They are available at most auto parts stores.
I too am clueless but rather than take a sensible approach and ask someonenlike you did, I just ordered a PC cable from ALDLCable for about $50 TT&L and downloaded some free software. I haven't gotton the cable yet but I’ll repost if it works. ( I’ll be to embarrassed if it doesn’t.)
FYI: The site has the cable, PC requirements and links to software. It might be worth checking out.
Anyone have any experience with this approach?
…And please no jokes about it not supporting the ’65. I know I need the OBD0 for that one. It’s just that they are SO hard to find.

Where did you order the cable from? I got mine from Craig Moates. And what software did you download? I downloaded FreeScan but I can't seem to get it to work right, I keep getting an error message when the program starts.

on the web... www.ALDLCable.com I dont know if it works, just ordered it, should get it mid week next week.
Yeah, where do the codes display?
And the igntion switch has to be on and but the car not running?
The codes will display on the dash LCD, for the second part install the jumper with the ingnition off then yes turn it to the on position and do not start the car.
Hope this helps
I have a 95 and purchased an Actron OBD I/II scanner, CP 9150 for about $300 from Autozone. it works fine. However the 4/12 clip and read out on the LCD display is a cheap alternative. I have never done this latter process but if it works you save a lot of $$

Use a paper clip, bend it to fit in #4 & 12 port ( 12 is directly below 4) turn key on (DO NOT START) codes will appear in the speedometer spot. Write them down! (turn key off & back on if you need to read them again) take key out and remove paper clip. go to Corvette Central to get correct codes for a '94 (some of the codes differ from other years).
'94 was the transition year for OBD 1&2. It still runs on OBD1 but uses OBD2 plug. Corvette Central is the only place I've found correct codes for those of us with '94s.
Thanks Nanook71. You mention the plug used on the 94 is a OBDII. Is that the 16 pin plug rather than the 12 pin? I am new to all of this. I have a couple of cylinders that seem to be missing. I replaced the distributor, plugs and wiring and it ran fine. It sat for about 6 months and now I have a miss, feels like 2 cylinders. Will the paper clip and codes point me in the right direction? I made a mistake and washed the engine after replacing the distributor and am afraid I may have messed it up again.

Yes , they used the obd2 plug getting set for 95 but its still obd1 so there are empty spaces (but count them). could have moisture in the distributor, welcome to the world of optispark. codes should point you in the right direction. make sure to check your wire connections.
Go to Corvette Central site and find there C4 Diagnostic Trouble Codes
to get the right codes for your '94. It will show the plug too. Let me know how it goes
If you do need to replace your Opti (lets hope not!) I got mine from Chandler Motorsports Inc. You can find them on Ebay. It was $180.00 with a lifetime warranty, shipped in 3 days, works great! and much cheaper than the big names. Doesn't make it any easier to replace though...
