Default cooling problem

When driving from a cold start the temp increases until the stat opens at ~180 and stays somewhat in that range for a short while. When I stop at a light or in slow traffic, the temp rises, the fans turn on at about 195, but it doesn't really seem to lower the temp at all it creeps up higher and higher 230-40, once I start moving again at 55+ the temp slowwwly drops, but doesn't go down to the 180ish that it used to be while crusing. The water pump is new, I cleaned out the radiator , temp sensor is new, rad cap replaced. I also changed the fan switch, before this problem arose. When the car is hot the overflow tank doesn't really change levels,(at cold mark). Possible airlock?

Already pulled the radiator it wasn't bad, some leaves at the bottom but not ever close to those pics. Still same problem.

how about replacing your radiator hoses - might be collapsed?
one of the guys in our local group had a similar type problem on his C3 - replaced bottom hose and problem went away - could be worth a shot

can your cooling system be bled? i have heard this can be a problem in the later model C4s - again, just offering suggestions!

i also recommend one of these

i don't know where you are located, but temps don't get much hotter than they do here in AZ

Fan switch? Are you talking about the switch, in one of the heads (which head, depends on the year, which you failed to mention) that activates the auxiliary fan?

Is the cooling system truly full? Have you burped it?

You indicate you have cleaned between the radiator and the condenser, but how clean is the inside of the radiator? Has it been flushed regularly...plus recently and had the fluid changed?

What kind of shape is the lower air dam (spoiler) in?

RACE ON!!!

I'm guessing it is not full how do you go about burping the sys? The front spoiler is kinda busted up I ordered one still waiting to recieve. The inside or the rad is clean.

Purging all of the air out of the cooling system varies depending on the YEAR of the car!

The spoiler doesn't just make the vette look good but it moves the air into the A/C and radiator to make the a/c work well and keep the radiator cool. The spoiler costs under $50.00 and is an easy install. Try it.
