I am just curious how common this problem is with late model C4s. My 96 has just recently stopped blowing air out of the vents. it will only blow out the floor vents. I found a couple vaccume leaks and replaced those hoses but am still having the same problem. Is there something specific I should be checking? i hope my main climate control unit isnt bad. those cant be cheap. Just let me know ur opinions
Mine was acting up for months, last week it finally stopped switching between between the different positions. I searched and found a msg here about a vacuum line problem that causes this. Mine would only blow out in the defrost area. On my 94 there is a small plastic one-way t-unit on the passenger side, near the valve cover, under a platic cover, near the fuel rail. One of the lines was broke off, and there was a small hole melted in the body. Found a replacement unit at the parts store and put it in. Now the air works better than ever. I think the hole was in the unit for some time, then the hose recently broke off and it stopped working completly. The unit cost like $3.

On your 96 the valve they are talking about isn't under the hood.
It's in the dash above you feet. My 96 CE has been doing the same
thing since last year but will still eventually switch to the dash vents.
I looked under there once and the process of getting to the valve
will be a huge PITA that will probably involve removing the seat and
dash panel covering the steering column underneath the dash. As long as it still switches eventually I'm going to put it off. It could be the control unit as well.
how do you evenatually get it to switch? just hit it a number of times? how did u find out it was under the drivers side dash?
someone is C4 general just said it is not under the dash, it is by the fuel rail
so WHERE is it anyway?
Here's the quote "That's funny. I own a 96 CE coupe that I purchased new. The vacuum t-valve sits on the passenger side between the fuel rail and the valve cover. In fact, about a year ago, I had to replace the valve because part of it disintegrated due to the heat. If I remember correctly, the part from GM cost about $6."

I just repaired my 94 ac and it sits between the fuel rail and valve cover.
this is confusing
oh well
my car goes into the shop on monday
so hopefully it will be solved soon. i just hope its not the main control unit. how much do these go for?
I just had to replace my Auto Climate Control Programmer (the vacuum valve controller) and I got it from Just Corvettes (a salvage yard) for 150. They are not available brand new anymore, so you have to find one and they can be expensive! I got lucky. Hopefully you dont have to replace it, because you have to become a contortionist to replace it. My car was having the same symptoms. It would only blow air through the defroster vents and would not close the heater door so i would always get a little hot air blowing even when the system was off. Works like a charm now.
