Default LT1 tick

I've got a very annoying ticking that sounds like it's from the rear upper part of the motor. I put the stethoscope on it thinking for sure it was a rocker bolt that was not set right. No real noise coming from the valve cover or top of the head, but any time I probe anything that relates to fuel lines I can hear it plain as day. Injectors, fuel rails, fuel lines. Seems to be loudest on the fuel lines. I know the injectors are loud, but this seems to be more than just a loud injector. Would a bad fuel preesure regulator make a loud clicking noise?

I should be able to hear an overtightened rocker bolt with a stethoscope at the valve cover shouldn't I?

It's fuel line hammer, and was a common complaint in '92. Mine does it too. There was a TSB on it, it involved isolating the fuel lines so that the knocking/hammering was not as audible in the cabin. Not a real big deal, just an annoyance.

That's great to hear. I was worried about a little deeper problem. Those Valve covers are a real pain to get off for a minor adjustment. I'd like to know a little more about this hammer. What causes it? Is there anything that can be done to help?

Just in case, is it correct that I would hear a a mis-adjusted valve from the valve cover?

One other thing, just in case. Is there an easy way to loosen the EGR tubes from the exhaust manifolds. Sprayed Liquid Wrench in there and let it sit over night, but I still could not budge those things. Was close to rounding one of the nuts.

Thanks for the info!

You need a crows foot socket to do it right. It looks like the head of a wrench with a square hole you can put an extension to your wratchet to it. It works really well 3/4 is the size if I remember right.Autozone sells a set.

One other thing I used Liquid Wrench in the past but now have moved to PB blaster it is the best I have ever used.

If it's like my '95, they're 7/8". Get a crowsfoot but get the flarenut type. Even that wouldn't get mine loose, it took heat too. Thankfully, these no longer exist on my car.

I have a 92 and an annoying tick coming from the valvetrain. It only got worse when I added roller rockers.

I tried isolating the fuel lines (as per bulletin) and adjusting the roller rockers to no avail. I still have a tick. It is so bad, people comment on it evertime they hear my engine.

I know in 93, they changed the valve cover design to try and combat this noise. Does anyone of any other suggestions? There is only so much more of this racket I can take.

I tried the crows foot, but no luck. I'll pick up the flare nut type and try that.
Where do I get the PB Blaster?

Guys,
My 94 makes the same ticking noise but only when the car is warmed up.
The noise becomes very apparent at 1500 rpm.
I had two seperate GM mechanics look at it that both work solely on vettes and they both told me it was not in the injectors or the rockers.
They said bottom end. Wrist pin or bearings!
If you drive the car it pulls like crazy until 5000rpm but the noise drives me crazy. Crazy enough that I am building a new motor and having it put in soon.
It make me sick to my stomach that this 84000 mile engine let me down.
