Default Hot Start Problems

I have a 1986 corvette with a 383 stroker in it. I have been having a hard time with hot starts. When its cold it starts up on the first click of the key. When its been sitting for about 10 minutes its hard to start unless i press on the gas till it catchs. The motor will rev up and down till it smooths out in a couple of seconds. I've gone through 3 sets of injectors and have had the same problem. All the injectors have been flow tested for leaks, the rail has all new o-rings, the fuel filter and pump have been replaced, including the fuel hoses. The engine has the Superram intake and Plenum so I had to get the computer reburned to compensate for the cold start injector. I have no codes and pretty much everything except the block is new. Is there less fuel when the car is hot or is there too much fuel being injected? Maybe my chip was not burned right? I have had this problem for awhile and it gets embarrassing when i have to start the car around people! I have the SVO Ford injectors in right now. I used to have Accel injectors. I have a new MAF and most of the sensors have been replaced. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you aren't getting black smoke when it does finally start, you don't have too much fuel...probably not enough. The crakn P/W vs coolant temp can be changed on the prom but it will probably take several burns to get it where you are happy with it.

Default Chip Burning

I'm also thinking it has something to do with the chip because I went over the car a thousand times. I had the chip burned by Ed Wright so should I send it back to him or someone else. Do I need to request a special procedure with the chip? Should I send the Dyno sheet I had done last year?

It could be your pick coil on the distributor. The Haines manual has a diagnostic for this to tell you if its good or not. The part is about $16.00 from Autozone. My '85 had similar warm starting problems and this was the problem. I searched and thought injectors as well, but the test was very conclusive that the pick up coil was the problem. Has been fine ever since.

How is your FPR? They can leak back and flood the engine on hot restart.

I have the SVO Ford injectors in right now. I used to have Accel injectors.
The Accel and the FMS injectors are rated differently. Changing from one to the other could mess with the tune. Of course the tune doesn't change, but same chip will make for richer A/F ratios in an engine with the FMS injectors replacing the Accels.

Does the fuel pump run for two seconds when the key is first turned to the "ON" position?

Default Injectors

I had the same problem with the Accel as with the Ford injectors. The computer was programmed with the Ford injectors. Do you think buying one of those little fuel pressure gauges for the fuel rail would help in seeing if the fuel pressure is dropping? If so, what should the pressure be and how long should it stay that way before it goes down? I can hear the fuel pump energize the system when I start it up in the mornings.

Yep a FP gauge is a good tool to have for fuel problems. When you turn the key on it should run for 2 sec to pressure up it will bleed down a little but should hold a pretty good pressure for about 5-10min. If it drops continuosly without stabilizing eithe Injector leak or FPR would be my guess.

If your FPR has the vacuum line on it pull it from the intake and see(smell) if there is gas in the line if so it is bad.
