I hate that code,
Last time I had that code my wife ended up with a new car.
I replaced the distributor with a bad one and eventhe dealer had no clue and I finaly decided it had to be the distributor so i replaced it a second time and the problem was solved but three days to late my wife already had a new sebring.
well any how, the P300 is usaly an ignition related problem. The list of post probable suspects are Plugs, Wires, CPS, Coil, Optiand if it is random I would look at the CPS, coil and distributor. If you are getting no other codes it may be the Opti.
I currently have the same code popping up every so often. It mostly comes on when the car is idling for a little while. I have changed EVERYTHING...new opti, wires, coil, module, plugs, knock sensors, injectors. I do have very high miles on mine, so I was going to replace these things anyways, but I still have the code sometimes and I have a slight miss when the car is idling and in gear at a standstill.
I am going to be replacing my heads in a couple weeks. I was given some advice that it could be a burnt valve (Thanks for the help Bogus!) and am corssing my fingers that it fixes the problem.
1996 A4. I had the same code a few months ago and I guess I got lucky. In the garage, with the lights off, I start the car and see immediately see the problem. Saw a spark gap from the spark plug wire on the manifold. Used a couple plastic zip locks to get the wires away from the manifold and thats about it. Erased the code and the vette runs great again.
