I read that the LT-1 engine weighs 785 lbs and the LT-4 weighs 1003 lbs. Is this true and if so, why? They both have cast iron blocks and aluminum heads.
The motors are so close. What could possibly account for that much extra weight? It's not like the LT4 has iron heads... What gets me is the weight is listed this way on the CAC link above...

This is from the bottom of the above link. It is almost like somebody weighed it wet with all the accessories attached including bell housing and clutch assy.

Both those numbers are wrong. An all iron SBC doesn't weigh that much. And there certainly could not be more than the most negligible difference between an LT1 and 4.
