After i set me idle I set my TPS voltage to .54 just like i read. But at WOT i read its supposed to be at 5 volts....mine sits at about 2.5. Is the TPS faulty?
At wot, you should see something around 4 to 4.5v. If you see 5, its faulty and the computer will set the tps code. You should definately see more than 2.5v.
I can never remember when the self-adjusting TPSs came into plya, but I think it was '92. You should test your 5v reference wire to make sure you are getting 5v before tossing your TPS. I can't remember which wire it is at the TPS (there are 3), but put a multimeter to a ground and then each wire and one of them should be obvious.
thanks for the replies guys. I will check out the 5v wire before dishing out $87 for a TPS just to be sure. I figured somthing was wrong with my voltages.
Have you removed the TPS from the car? If so, you may not have the tang from the TB properly engaged with the TPS. Especially if you have had it off of the car, remove it again and check for the full voltage range, and a smooth steady increase in voltage as you move the lever. If it checks out OK, very carefully, make sure the tang is properly engaged as your re-install the TPS.
What year Vette?? If '90 or newer the TPS is not adjustable and the ECM will "learn" idle & WOT settings.
With the connector unplugged, check resistance as you slowly move the throttle from idle to WOT position. Resistance should increase smoothly with no jumps nor dead spots.
I got a brand new in the box TPS from CarQuest that has never been used. I thought mine was bad but found that it was not, so it's just laying around. Just pay shipping and it's yours. If you want/need it just let me know.
