Im wondering if the $900 dollar price tag of the stainlessworks headers is really worth it compared to the cheaper hooker headers for $400 or so? The stainlessworks are ideal for what I'm going for in that they are 1 5/8th and stainless steel. I am having a problem justifying the cost though in my head. Any opinions? Or people out there who have the Hooker headers for an LT1 ? Do they hold up? The hooker headers I am considering are the Hooker 2151 LT Headers and I have read the tech tip about the install.
Stainless works
I have the stainless works and they are one heck of a header. Mine are not coated and I would not recomend doing so as they stay cooler then the stock manifolds and cool down very fast when the car is shut off. I got mine on a GP and it's been a while so e-mail them they may do it again. I also saw that EM had a GP going may want to see if those are still available. Here is my take on your situation. Yes the hookers are only $400 but you will need to getthem coated for around another $400 and then you wil need to fab the exhaust. My stainless headers came ready to bolt on with the extention pipes.
I'm running the Hooker 2151's on a '95 LT1 and love them. The ceramic-coated version runs $550 from Summit, though, and reducers are another $70 as I recall...so the cost-justification spread may be smaller than you thought.
I've run Hooker SuperComps for years, and have nothing negative to say about them in any regard...but if I'd known that there was a quality 1 5/8" option on the market, I'd have given them some serious thought.

$550 coated is a diferent deal all togeather. I agree I have ran te hooker SC on several cars and they always where a great header.
I been running the ceramic coated Hooker 2151's for years now. The coating stil looks very good. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about them really.
No. They do not have the AIR tubes either. You have to drill a hole and weld on your own O2 Sensor bung(s). The 2149's have the air tubes and have 1 O2 Sensor provision mounted on one of the primary tubes. Some guys cap that off and move it to the collector flange where the O2 Sensor gets a reading from all 4 cylinders on one side instead of just one.
