I will back Mojo, His combo, Panuzzo's or Mackey's old combos we're like clockwork. Great performance, well matched for not that much money. No sacrifice in reliability either.
thanks for all the replys, my car has some freak about it. 2 years ago my car ran with the fastest stock lt1's, my best 13.02 @ 106 mph just hoping these new mods don't slow me down.
I've hit 12.50@108, stock LT1,2800 converter,3.45 gears in a Dana 44, drag radials, trans cooler, skinnies up front and slight weight reduction(no spare, swaybar or junk in the hatch area).
Panuzzo with the same setup but with 3.73 gears and some roller rockers hit a 12.20.
Mackey with the same setup but 3.73 gears(engine completely stock) hit 12.40's.
I agree you will want 3.73s as you are trying to lower your ET as much as possible and not worry about top end.
a dana 44 is a must! Low 12s wont be too hard with a hot cam kit, convert, 3.73s, LTs, and tuning! infact i believe thats about where you should be.. plan on dropping about 5 grad for those mods... maybe a little less if you install yourself... and alot more if you have someone else install for you.
in all honesty i wouldnt go with the hot cam just yet! that will be prb the biggest project and you could get all the other stuff done and say hey i wanna go faster and then end up buying new heads and or porting your old heads and the hot cam wouldnt be the most optimum.
because the cam swap on these things aint exactly a walk in the park due to the tight space and what not. jsut my 2 cents
I don't see how a D44 is needed for a low 12 sec car... I think that is a waste of money, considering what those beasts are going for these days, USED. I mean that's what, 360-380 rwhp? If you are abusive on the launch, breakage can happen, but that is true with anything. I thought there was a guy around here that was running 10's on his original D36 before switching to a 9"?

I broke my Dana 36 after 30 passes. While it's true that just changing to a 44 isn't going to make you quicker, but the extra strength will be needed once you start doing the other stuff, especially with sticky tires.
Anyone who has a 36 that survived is either lucky or not launching hard.
also they guy running 10s mike 1985 i think.. had a dana 36 with 3.07s
to get into low 12s with out doin extensive motor work you will need to get 3.73s.
a good rule of thumb is for every .1 of a gear change you will gain .05 in the 1/4.... to a certian extent.
3.73s would most certianly break a dana 36 with 360-380 rwhp! if not the first time then down the road.
also im sure his times are in the 9s now that he can put a lower ratio in it. and its a heck of alot better knowing u wont break anything.
mojo, just curious, why havent you gotten your pcm reprogrammed, and how is it shifting properly/speedo correct if it still thinks it has the stock 2.59's?

I still have the ECM, I changed the speedo gears in the trans to correct for the gear swap.
If you've noticed all the debate lately over chip burning, I think I'm better off where I'm at since the engine is still stock. I know that a gear swap can affect the speed density system and maybe some changes should be in order, but at this time I'm satisfied with the performance of the car. It wins a lot of races and is very consistent. I don't want to mess that up.
