Default Conversion to HEI

OK, I bought a tach drive HEI to put in my 74BB. Any one done the conversion, or have a pointer to a helpful article?

Thats a peice of cake. If you have purchased the large diameter HEI unit with the internal coil its very easy. Find the coil ignition (+) wire and trace it back to the bulkhead where it enters the fire wall. You can just tie it back to the harness as you will disconnect it at the firewall connector. This wire is a resistor wire so you need to replace it with a 12ga wire, at CarQuest you can get the OE Packard style type 57 male terminals to make up the new wire, the OE terminal comes out of the connector easily, if you look carefully at the terminal you will see that it's split. Squeeze the split closed and the wire will just pull out of the terminal housing. Make up the new wire and just insert it into the terminal block. That wire now terminates at the BAT connection at the HEI cap. Thats about all there is to it. Other than timing it when you are done making up the plug wires
