Default Difference between blue and black tag ZF...

Sorry, but i'm relatively new to the forums. What is the difference between the blue and black tag ZF? I have a '94... which would I have?

Unless a previous owner changed it, you have a blue tag. The balck tag was used from 1989 to mid 1993, the blue tag after that. The black tags were made in Germany and are stronger due to a straighter cut on the first three gears. The blue tags are quieter.

Here is a even BIGGER newbie question. I have a 93 and would like to know where to look for this colored tag? I would love to know.

How do I tell when my car was manufactured?

The sticker in the door jamb will tell the month and year of build. The trans I know nothing about.

The tag is on the passenger side of the transmission.

The later version has a smaller diameter input shaft also.
(different throw out bearing too obviously)
