While I had my LT1 engine project on the engine stand, I wanted to prime the oiling system. I didn't have an offset one that is like the one on the Vette, so I got one from a '96 Vortec 5.7 short block that I had.
I put it on and it worked fine with a stock filter for the Vortec engine. My question is, if this setup will work on the engine stand, will it work in the Vette? I have installed LT headers already and this may have given me the room for this filter setup. Was the offset setup on a stock LT1 there for a reason? If this Vortec filter setup will work, then I should be able to use larger filters. Does anyone see any problems?
The offset adapter was stock on the LT1 & LT4 Vettes so that the oil filter would clear the driver's side catalytic converter. Since you have headers, you should be able to make the switch to your alternative setup. To check, install the driver's side header. If the filter clears it, you'll be fine.
