I did a search and saw someone say not to shift to 4th WOT in a 700 auto trans. I have a level 3 raptor in the vette i just bought and i want to make sure i'm not on my way to destroying a transmission.
Am i supposed to floor it through the 1-2-3 shifts and then let off, shift to 4th and then floor it again to keep gaining speed?
Yes, i'm a newbie at this transmission stuff. I'm not used to shifting automatics and i can't say i'm to fond of it.
i have a presumably stock (with a shift kit) 700R4 in my 84...and i keep the pedal to the wood the entire run till she ain't got none left...it shifts hard and crisp and i put this sucker through a ton of abuse...still runs great after about 40k of service...
I was told that the 3-4 shift is VERY tough on the tranny if you have some power behind it. If your car is stock, I doubt it is bad enough though..
Actually a vette is the only car in which you CAN go to 4th at WOT. The standard 700R4 has a valve that prevents that shift at WOT. There is a 'corvette only' part that allows it to happen.
If it is an issue of having too much power, I wonder why they add a part to the tranny to let a vette do it, but keep all of the other vehicles (with the 700R4) from shifting.
