C4 300F
C5 320F

appearently with the C5, GM decided the oil or possibly the engine could handle another 20 degrees of oil temps.

My oil temp has been as high as 350 racing & no problems. Synthetic motor oil of course.

101 more degrees and the oil should be glowinh red hot. Isn't 451 degrees Fahrenheit enough to char paper and make little orange embers?

Anyways, I've always thought oil over 260 degrees was very bad. I get scared when it even gets to 240 degrees drag racing. The last time I was at the track, both my water and oil temp were about 240 and I thought I warped my heads.

Default Engine Temps

Here's some temps I got from a previous post....

Left work today and took the Vette (96 LT1) on a road trip west of Las Vegas out near Death Valley. The AC was cold and the Vette handled great. Passed quite a few cars climbing through the mountain passes. Outside temps got as high as 129 degrees. Here's some temps I saw on the digital display with the AC on (Totally stock cooling system):

1. Inside cockpit temp before I started 151 degrees (Digital thermometer on the seat.)
2. Highway engine temp 70 to 80 MPH 205 - 215 degrees
3. Highway oil temp 70 to 80 MPH 220 - 235 degrees (Mobil 1)
4. Highway trans temp 70 to 80 MPH 220 - 225 degrees
5. Town (Slow traffic) engine temp in traffic 210 to 230 degrees
6. Town (Slow traffic) oil temp 225 - 239 degrees
7. Town (Slow traffic) trans temp 220 - 230 degrees

I routinly run my oil temps to 280 at the track. hasn't blown up yet
Do you run an oil cooler? Just curious.....I'm considering taking out the xtra oil cooler in front of my rad to try for more airflow.

Default What's the temp on the gauge

I have a 1990. The temp gauge has 5 hash marks the second is 185 the last is 260. My fan comes on at the 4th hash, (the one just before 260). Since all the hash marks are not marked how can I tell what the temp is at the 3 and 4 hash marks.
