you can always reprogram that point. I personally have enabled lockup a bit earlier and also only drive in 3rd when not on the freeway. But I also have a looser converter (3000rpm) so I find the throttle too slippy at low speeds, the TCC helps to firm things up.
As to making a switch, I'm sure you could rig one up. I know when I had my 85 I put in a switch to manual engage the lockup, just grounded a wire on the diag. connector. But not sure how you disable it, only thing I can think it splicing a switch into the control wire to the tranny.
Is it possible to manually control lockup for our non-elecrically controlled 700R4s? I'm kinda interested. As far as driveability, IMO, the lower the stall speed, the better gas mileage and the more slip, the more performance, to a certain extent. Vigilante 2000 rpm stall TC isn't that bad, but sometimes I'd rather have my stock 1500 rpm TC when I wanna economize.
