Default Heated O2 sensors?

I keep hearing about guys who swap in a set of heated o2 sensors, I've even heard a claim of 30 hp increase at the wheels, that sounds like a bit high for a simple o2 change. But if anybody could explain the difference between regular o2's, and heated o2's, , and have any of you done this to your cars? How much extra work is involved in installing these heated o2's?

If this setup is worth it, what brand should I use, part numbers would help, I've heard Bosch is the best for replacement sensors. My car is a stock '92 with 66K miles, and I was planning on replacing the o2's anyway, but any possible increase in power would be good. Thanks for the help.

Its a simple wiring job to put one in, and while it is possible to gain power, its more likely youre going to get the power from the wideband O2 tuning instead.

The difference is merely that the heated version has a heated element inside, so the engine goes into closed loop sooner, it doesnt read anything differently.

You dont need them until you go to headers, because the O2 bung in most headers is stuck into one single pipe instead of the collectors where it should be, and moving the stock O2 down to the collector causes it to be cooler (O2 operates at a set exhaust temp) and the car goes in and out of closed loop.

I seriously doubt you would gain any power from just switching to the heated version, unless you have significant mods.
