Getting ready to replace O2 sensor on '87 and I see conflicting responses on other threads. Is it easier to do, hot or cold? I know the new sensor is pretty solid but has anyone broken one off while removing, or damaged the e-pipe?

Thanks.
If the sensor were properly installed, it should have received a coat of "neva seize" on the threads. When you install the new one do not get the antiseize anywhere near the element.
Also, I would recommend investing a few bucks in the socket that is made for removing/replacing these things
here you go buddy.
This is the instructions from my '88 Helms GM shop manual.
I'm sure its the same for an '87.
Note that they say to disconnect the negative battery cable first.
