Sorry, no picsand this whole thing may be moved to another section, but I just removed and tomorrow wil replace my 88 bumper assy.

Two questions, or really one, are you trying to remove just the bumper skin to say replace a light fixture or are you trying to remove the whole assy to replace accident damage (that's me)

If you are trying to remove just the skin, there are a lot of nolts/screws that have to come out

For example, all the bolts (4 each side?) that hold the skin to the wheel wells. all the fasteners and these vary that hold the bottom of the skin ajd the air dam to the bottom of the fender wells, all the bolts across the top of the skin, that hold the skin to the crush pad and related supports, the screws/ bolts taht hold the side lights to the bumber skin, and then there are four or five screws that hold the skin to the bottom of the air valance at the bottom of the crush pad

If you want to remove the crush assy too, after you have done most of the above, there are four bolts that hold the crush pad on.

Actually, if you want to remove the whole d&&n thing. just undo the screws that hold the skin to the fender wells, I think there are 8 per side, the screws that hold in the side marker lights and the four bolts that attach the crush pad to the frame.

The "Book" Helms makes it sound real simple, but it isn't! Be prepared for trial and errror and try to label all the bolts and screws you take out.

If you are replacing parking/fog light lenses that6's a whole other set of problems

I recently had a low impact crashy that destroyed my bumber skin, the crash pad and the driver's side fog/parking light

I have the new bumber painted and will be putting the whole thing back together tomorrow. I can tell you it is not as easy as Helms makes it sound

Thanks for the response.. I recently bought a new bumper from another forum member here. He included the crush assy as well as the bumper molding trim. The bumper I have on my car now needs replacement since it has the wave effect from age on the top portion of the bumper. I was told it would cost some money to get it fixed. So I decided to get another one in good condition that wouldnt need those repairs. So as of now I will be just replacing the skin as you say and leave the crush assy in place. How big of a job am I in for just replacing the skin? I was told the hood would have to come off for replacing the bumper.. but if its just the skin... would it still have to come off ?

I recently took the fascia off to paint it on my 84 and I did not have to take the hood off. There are alot of different screws so label them and it took a few hours to put it back on.

I started to putm mine back together today

Here's what I learmed!

It is virtually impossible to replace the fascia {bumber cover} if the crush pad is on the car! I know the Helms makes it sound easy. but it isn't Maybe if you have three people you can do it, but I doubt it

Remove the crush assy and install it in the new fascia!

I spent several hours today trying to figure out how to install the fascia over the crush pad while on the car and concluded it can't be done.

I pulled the crush pad assy an in less than an hour had the fascia cover installed on the crush pad

Tomorrow am I will be attemting ti reinsatll the whole D&*n thing and I'll let you know how I make out

Thats odd... I was able to get my new bumper on with the crash assy already on the car. Took me maybe 3 mins to get it all lined up. I even left the hood in place as well and just used a 10 mm box wrench to loosen and tighten the bolts along the top. However I placed another thread about my bumper alignment being slightly off on the drivers side. Can't figure it out.
