Default How to remove the driveshaft?

I am attempting to replace the rear main seal on the zf tranny. I have the c-beam bolts off and it is pushed over to the right side, but still on. I have also removed the bolts and 2 metal straps holding the driveshaft onto the differential. The haynes manual says to just slide the driveshaft forward to unseat the u-joint and then back off of the tranny. The driveshaft will not slide at all, forward or backward. I can pry it forward and the u-joint is unseated from the differential (not rusted on), but it will not go far enough forward to remove. How are you suppose to remove the driveshaft, or what I am doing wrong?
Thanks. 96 LT4.

It sounds like you are doing everything correctly. You can try prying harder to push the slip yoke further into the trans to allow the u joint to clear the pinion yoke. You shouldn't have to, but you may gain enough extra clearance by removing the caps from the ends of the u joint. If you do this, take care bot to lose any of the needles from inside the caps.

I really struggled removing mine to! I eventually used a pry bar and rubber mallet to move it far enough out of the way to pull the Ujoints - then dropped the beam and the driveshaft together. (you will need to be able to turn the wheels 1/2 turn to get access to all the Ujoint bolts.

Has the rear of the transmission dropped with the removal of the C-beam? If so try lifting it up to gain some clearance if that doesn't work try dropping it a little. It will come out!!

That's what I had to do on mine -- take the rear U-joint caps off the trunnion.
