Heavy metallic knocking from front
Started yesterday at the beginning of a 500 mile round trip and it's a loud metallic bang when there is slight right hand lock on the steering wheel and the wheel hit's a bump - doesn't need to be a big bump to do it. It progressively got worse over 200 miles but didn't seem to affect the steering or suspension from working ok although I did tend to drive rather more conservatary.
Sounds like someone hitting the suspension with a small hammer and I can just feel it through the floor.
Only happens on right hand corners and never on left or straightahead.
Checked all the mounting bolts and they are tight to factory specs. Only thing I can find is very slight play in the top balljoint on the drivers side (bottom balljoints are new). Could a worn top balljoint create such a loud and noticeable noise?
Any other candidates for this or anyone ever had something similar?
Thanks
Steve
I am pretty much convinced it's the top balljoint as I regreased it yesterday and it appears to have stopped the noise for the time being. Looks like I'll have to replace them to be sure.
Thanks
Steve
