That is the air duct between the air intake at the front of the car channeled thru the ducting to the air cleaner, now allowing hot air into the intake. Does not seem that this would add any power?

if i understand what you are talking about, the rubber may be to insulate the air filter intake from taking in hot air around the engine. not sure.

I think the power gain is from removeing the restriction caused by the channeling.
Where the hood meets the radiator cover area, there is just 2 small holes for air to get thru. Those 2 holes are smaller than the throttle bodies so it makes perfect sense.

Open up the hole in the radiator cover to match the hole in the hood. I have run mine with and without the air cleaner assembly, and noticed no appreciable difference. I have to admit I haven't done back to back 1/4 mile tests, which I easily could have.

RACE ON!!!

Did opening up that hole raise the engine temp? It seems less air would be forced thru the radiator.

Not that I recall. I did that years ago. I've messed with the cooing system a little too. Now I have a 22" X 8" trans cooler in front of the condenser and the radiator. It never tops 210°, sittlng still and idling.

I've done the cold air mod (cutting open the rad shroud to match hood opening)

Made absolutely no difference in operating temps, and I live in a VERY hot climate.

No SOTP power difference either.

I replaced my hood to air cleaner housing seals with a new set that have a "bridge" across the middle to prevent them from collapsing. That DID make a difference, as mine were collapsed to the point that they were restricting flow.

Got a pic of the "bridge", and where did you get it, sounds like something that could work. After posting my previous reply, I thought there could be a problem with a collapsed duct that would restrict air flow

OK, here they are....

If memory serves me correctly, I bought them off eBay. They are brand new pieces being reproduced with the bridge as an integral piece of the rubber housing.

I bought them about 3 years ago. I will try to dig through my Corvette file and find a receipt for them.

I once did a back to back dyno test with and without the aircleaner assembly. Actually measured 10rwhp LESS without the ac.

The ducting brings in air from in front of the radiator. At speed this is cooler than under hood air giving more power. Ours is the precurser to the better cold air intake on todays Vettes.

I would have thought so. So for both tests the engine was getting hot (but not as bad as closed hood, hot) air. The big difference was the air being straightened by flowing through the filter and the approach to the TBs caused by the air cleaner base.
