Default One To Four

Hello, first time posting here, need some help.
I currently own a 1989 zf6 L98. Runs great but it has that one to four shifting assistance. I know there is a write up on this in another section of this site but Ive tried what it says and no luck, actually, couldnt even find the relay they were talking about. But I did some research and found on this site a kit you can buy to get rid of the one to four, but was wondering if there is a relay or fuse that you can disconnect to disable the one to four. If so, where and exactly what relay or fuse or easy button do you pull? Thanks.

Only thing I've heard of is the CAGS disable plug from all of the vette part sellers. Pretty cheap fix to get rid of that problem.

The relay that acts on the transmission to force you into 4th or above hangs off the left side of the ZF6. You can just unplug the wiring harness to it. The skip shift kit is just a small wiring splice that protects these ends from corrosion. Functionally, unplugging the harness does the job.

You can also turn off the function in the ECM or PCM so that the skip shift never comes on. But for an 89 that would take a chip burn and replacement.

I couldn't fine the relay on my 89 either. Simplest thing to do is pull up on ramps, crawl under, unplug solenoid located nest to slave cylinder. Tape up wire ends and tie out of way.

I went out driving and disconnected the only thing that I thought would be a relay, but it didnt work, then I unplugged 2 more plugs, one being a fuse and another just some sort of power, (ac probably) but couldnt find that realy for the 1to4. I see 2 relays on the right side but not the left ah, I think im blind in the one eye and cant see out of the other, can you tell me exactly which one it is, if not Ill just do what rich said, but thankyou for all the help.

The evil 1-4 solenoid is the round cylinder in the middle there.
Up in the upper left is the back up light switch.
On the tailshaft is the speed sensor.

Welcome to the forum by the way.
