my father just call he has a 1988 vette just drove it about 25 miles shut if off went into a store and came back and car won't do anything lights go on head light are bright. when you turn the key it does nothing no sound what can he check? please advise
Other possibilities: With an automatic, put the shifter in neutral and rock it in the neutral gate in case the neutral safety switch has gone out of adjustment. With a manual push the clutch pedal harder.
ok heres what happen, he took the keys out got out of the car lock the doors waited 10 mins he got back in put the key in and nothing lololo he was flipping out the vette is his baby, was mine but i bought a 02 vette. well anyways i pop the hood and did what you all told me but i also disconnected the battery. waited 10 mins put the battery back and the car started right up. so i think you were all right it was the vats . i' gonna bypass the vats for him for him so this doesn't happen again. thanks for all your help....

Vats is a very good security feature. All he needs to do is to get a new ignition key with a new pellet resistor on it. Costs $35 from a Chevy dealer. they can program with the orig VATS code for your Dad's car. I had this problem first year I had the car, drove me nuts.
