Default Left header on LT1, from under or over

Im stuck as the drivers side header keeps binding when i try and put it in from the top and the bottom isnt going in either. Before i rack my nuckles more and scratch the fine BBQ Black paint job, I was wondering how others with LT1 had done this.
Thanks

What brand headers? Shorties or long tubes?

Shorties go in from the top, and the long tubes from underneath.

If they're long-tubes then you may have to reverse an engine mount bracket bolt. When installing Exotic Muscle headers it's a key step. It may also apply to other brands.

LT Headers go in from the bottom and you have to reverse the motor mount bolt on the driver's side. After doing so, slipping in the headers should be fairly easy especially on the drivers side.

from the bottom is the only way. (well at least it was like that with both of my header installs)
and yes those dang motor mount bolts get in your way if you are wondering y it wont go all the way in. just be patient and itll be money.
if you are worried about paint then cover the headers with paper and have a friend help you from above while you slide it up from the bottom.
and before you get the header bolted in scre the plugs back in. oh yea make sure the plugs r out when putting in the headers.

move the ac compressor, its 4 bolts and then it will swing out of the way. and move the ASR these should help alot

good luck your friend

Thanks Guys.

Yes its the motor mount on the passenger side thats hanging me up with the 2151s.

To reverse the bolts do i need to jack up the engine to remove and load or will they come out and still alighn withpout doing that.

Just jack the engine enough to support the load when you pull the mount bolt out. Mine went in and out fairly easy.

I had to cut the cat mounting bracket and I had to shave down the motor mount bolt-end. From there it was still tight, but doable.

Irish- Did you choose to shave the bolt instead of reversing it or did you still have to shave it after you reversed it?

I shaved it down as well.
I didnt know about reversing the bolts.
i just used a dremel as its really the only thing that will fit down in there.

Ive got it all up and in place now. I reversed the engine mounting bolts around. I think it only took 5 minutes to do.

Just have to hook up the heated o2 sensors and put all the stuff back on tomorrow morning.

Clearnce is just fine. Only needed a bit more room with the 2151s. I did them on both sides And they slid right up.
