Default PKE light draining battery

The PKE light in the DIC is now on all the time. The PKE system has not been operational since I've had the car (96 coupe). I've got the GM shop manual and using the trouble shooting guidlines I've determined that the reciver is bad. Instead of ripping the dash apart to replace a reviever that cost too much I decided to live without the system. However, since the PKE light stays on whenever the ignition is off, it's been draining the battery down (after a week of sitting the car will just barely crank).

The manual wiring diagrams indicste the PKE light is on the same fuse as the door locks, so I don't want to remove this fuse. Does anyone have another way of turning this light off permanently? Does the DIC have bulb that can be removed?

Mine does the same thing. I know this isn't a permanent fix, but all I do to get the PKE light to go out when the ignition is off is to take the key out and then reinsert the key in the ignition. Don't turn it on or anything like that, just put the key back in and the light should go out, at least it does for me. I know it's a bit of a PIA, but it's cheaper than replacing the receiver and easier than pulling the bulb out (cause you have to put it back in if you ever fix the PKE system).

Reinserting the key only works sometimes and even then after awhile the light comes back on. I guess my easies option is to remove the bulb.
Thanks for the answers though.

Pulled the PKE fuse and the light stayed on. Pulled the Door Lock fuse and the light went off (PKE bulb is powered from the door lock fuse). Don't want to do without the power door locks so I reinstalled th fuse.

So, it appears that the PKE receiver is bad. Since I do not have the time available to pull the instrument panel apart to either replace the receiver or to pull the PKE bulb from the DIC it appears that I will have to pay (big bucks) to have someone do it for me.

Has anyone had a PKE receiver replaced (96 coupe) or does anyone have a guess what it will cost to have a dealer do it?

Thanks for any help.

Yeah, the dealer around here quoted me $650 or so to replace it. It's really not that hard to replace, you just have to pull the dash pad off, not the instrument cluster. It took me about an hour and a half to get the pad off and get it back together, and I was taking my time. I think you can get the receiver for liek 200 or 250 from a discount place.
