Default Taylor plug wire users, a question.

Do Taylor plug wires have all 90* ends on them? I love MSD but they have have "updated" their plug wires for the LT1 / LT4 cars so that the #7 wire has a straight boot instead of a 90*. Although this works better for stock manifolds, it doesn't work so well on the headers.

I've seen that taylor has some wires out that are also supposed to have the same low resistance as the MSD's and they make some really nice wire looms as well.

Nathan, you can order the Taylors with all 90s or all 180s. These are the universal cut to fit wires. If I remember right the custom pre-cut sets did have two straight ends on the set. I usually use the universal cut to fit sets so I can make sure they all fit right.

I have the MSD's and I wanted all 90 degree boots, too. So I called MSD and they sent me two 90's to replace the straights, free of charge! I also bought their stripper and a few terminals for the opti and made the lengths on a few wires perfect. Good company.

I've heard many a horror story about self made plug wires not making up properly. Knowing my luck I think I'd do better if I didn't have to crimp the ends on myself

Done with the right tools you won't have a problem. Use either the MSD or the Taylor crimp tool, and I don't mean their El-cheap tool that you hit with a hammer using either tool which is identical, I have never had a problem with wires coming apart or not lasting as long as a commercially crimped wire.

Well what I'm thinking then is just go with MSD and buy the pre-made kit which works fine except for the one wire. There is extra length so I'll just buy some spare 90 degree ends and the crimp tool.

After I've already got the tool then I'll look into just buying the bulk cable kits. I think I'll try my luck at one or two wires first though

Except that you only seem to be able to buy the terminals in sets of 100. I guess it's back to the drawing board. They used to have a bulk wire kit that had LT1 opti ends on one side, nothing on the other. Guess it's time to look up that part number.

Nathan, I think the Taylors are great wires but their boots leave much to be desired; the rubber isn't vulcanized and is very soft; this does not lend itself well to resisting much exhaust header heat.

I've always like MSD. I'm thinking about going with black this time. I'm also going to get the actual wire seperators instead of trying to just use tie wraps this time

Here is a plan, buy the MSD's, if you like them, and call or e-mail MSD and tell them your problem with the straight boot. I bet they offer to send you one with the 90 boot. Just have the length you want it made to. They took care of me. I shortened a few of the wires using their cheapo crimper and my vice. Works good and lasting a long time.

Yeah I'm sure they'd send me the wire or two that I would need with no problem, they've done it before. They're a good company though and I'd just assume pay them for their product if I can. If I could get all the parts, and you guys say they work fine, I'd just assume make my own of the proper length.

I think you should stick with the MSDs. The taylors are prone to arching through the rubber and causing a miss. This was especially easy to see at night and since I also have a MSD 6AL it was worse. I have had non-such issues with the MSD wires.

Before you purchase a set of Taylor or MSD, do a Google search on Magnecor. I run their wires and they're supposed to be top notch.

Stick with MSDs. I have tried out many sets of both brands and the MSDs hold up better. Their universal set has a nice crimping tool with it. All you need is a vice and some needle nose pliers. Theirs is a double crimp type.

Hi Nathan,
I bought a set of pre-made Taylor's from Summit. Good price and excellent wires. My set came with one wire that had a 45* boot rather than the 90's. My boots are pre-molded in some type of "easy-grip" plastic or silicone which I found to work very well.
I don't have headers so I didn't have any unusual fittment problems. I bought my set late last year.
Hope this info helps.

I have been using Taylor wires for yrs on my LT1. It is a great wire I don't have any complain in them. And it cost only $54 compare to MSD $90??.

I just ordered MSD's for my ride... it had an extra wire for that very reason... one was a straight and the other was a 90*. I'll ckeck which one I used tonight... if you can use the other I'll ship it to you!!!

Call JEGS and ask them what's in the box before you order... chances are MSD has corrected this problem
