thanks for the tip.
btw, if im gonna be replacin spark plugs anyways, is there any advantage to getting more expensive plugs or do the 2 dolla plugs work just as well....
If it wasn't for the Forum I would have sold my Corvette 2 years ago! I'm not going to name anyone, but I was stepped through a timing chain removal and installation!
Yeah, with the help of this forum, I actually grew the ***** to work on my own stuff... and I'm damn glad I did. Now I enjoy it... alot! I still get the nervous butterflies before I do something that I am not familiar with (cause mistakes can get $$$$$$$$ real quick), and I try to know my limits.
I've learned A LOT and have enjoyed every bit of it. I have to do as much as I can on this car myself, cause otherwise there's no way I could afford it. The perk is that I find it fun, cause I know that the forum will help me find my way out if I get in too deep on a project.

This is still only a small step toward cylinder heads though. This is a big freeekin deal for me.
mebbe.....
Now that's the ticket!!! Just to give you some insight on this... and I hope I don't get flogged too badly, I just finished my cam and Meziere install... and I think I may have done 25% of the work (if that). My neighbor did most of it. I learned alot from it!!! The last time I did anything close to that, I was helping my brother rebuild a 351 Cleveland and I got the duty of stabbing the cam in...
First it was upside down and it got caught on a bearing... my initial instinct was to just "tap" it in with a small hammer. I figured it's a metal cam against a metal block... it just needed some persuading right??? WRONG!!! At least my bro caught me before I fudged things up, but I could have caused some major damage because I ddin't know any better.
If you are real interested in doing your own work, meet up with some other handy members or others who do this stuff and just watch and learn. Don't go off f***king up your ride the way I almost did!!! Above all... ASK QUESTIONS!!!

The only "advantages" are you'll make your wallet lighter and easier to carry and you'll make someone else a little richer.
I could send my sister to help you out, she likes tinkering around with cars and lives just down the road in Lancaster.
Nahhh, don't feel that way. Even the big boys make mistakes. And they know how to do it.
That is for sure I am helping a budy on Saturday fly cut some engine blocks.
Finished the 429 ford,355 chevy and started on the 302 ford got one cut across the block ,walked away and my buddy was watching it and slam bang, block on the floor and center bar flew by him and could have done him in.
Broke 3 cutters out of 16 and made the block junk in less then a second.
Teddy came in and said ,I have been doing that for over 40 years and never had that happen!
Of course the block we did last was his.
I thought that we might have a forum member in Harrisburg that would sit in and help you, guess not. I live in South Florida or I'd jump in. Sorry and good luck.
its not a problem. cept now my girlfriend is pushing me to pull the head as well. she cant even change her own oil but she thinks it would be "a good experience for me"
it would be a good experience for her to have a boyfriend who can fix cars is what i think she really means....
y'know what? it's just possible the harrisburg and general area members jiust haven't read this post. suggestion: post a separate thread like this--"Harrisburg PA Needs Help, Plz" in the General section.
I'd say you'll get at least a couiple responses. You got a few million within the 50 mile radius and this IS summer where the nights are long and weekends, too.
thanks for the tip.

I guarantee you that the electrons won't know the difference. The ONLY advantage to the fancy plugs, is that some of the more exotic metals will last longer. Often longer than a car guy cares to leave plugs in an engine in the first place...So what's the point?

Although I would love to have a "big brother" help me out, I haven't actually asked anyone to directly help with it so its okay with me.
I just bought the plugs, autolite copper core. VERY exciting i know.
My morning with the "civic guy" was very interesting btw. The coolest thing he had (not installed) was a quadruple throttle body.
Like, instead of one throttle body leading into the intake manifold, the intake manifold leads into 4 synchronized throttle bodies with the fuel injectors positioned right in the throttle body itself.
Also saw his new cross drilled 13 inch rotors, his apexi car computer (lets him change a/f ratio and set the vtec on and off from inside the car) garret t3 turbo, and the new cylinder head with ported intake and exhaust.
Lots of cool stuff that I barely understood, but I'm getting there. I AM sad to say that his car looked much easier to work on than mine... but I'm trying to hold to the course.
A 4 cycl is easier as there is one head on top of the motor with those 4 plugs saying hello I'm right here. I changed the headgasket in a dodge neon in a few short hours. A v6 or v8 has 2 heads, is trickier to time, and usually is harder to work on due to the V and all the crap in the way. If you never tore into an engine before I would deffinitly get someone to help you that has. Simply because they will say dont do that. Or try it like this. Offer a 30pack or 2 and your girlfriend in a bikini or some other form of lack of clothing to bring us the beer and you will have half of pa at your house doing the job for you.
