hey guys i have a 95 lt1 with 72000 i think my cats need to be replaced. What are some of the symptoms and if i do need to replaced what are the best kind to get and how much? How many miles do you get out of them?...thanx guys
Clogged cats tend to reduce exhaust flow causing the engine to expend more HP expelling exhaust gasses, which is first felt as a loss of power at high RPM.
For a little boost in both power and mileage, when it's time, install hi-flow cats as your stock cats are rather restrictive.
"rather restrictive"?? - From what I have understood is that the LT1 cats are not very restrictive, and that you will not gain much power from a hi-flow cat. However, the L98s are in fact rather restrictive and hi-flow cats make for a worthy gain in power.
the newer the cat the less restrictive they are, i was told by my local muffler shop that high flow cats would maybe give you 5 HP on an lt1 or lt4, but 10-12 on an L98

CT has fairly stringent emissions doesn't it?
If so then you'll know to replace them when it fails the emissions test.
I just had new high flow cats installed on my '95 LT1, 69.5Kmiles. Here is the thread I started, and the symptoms I had.... http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...11&forum_id=48
The muffler shop said they were damn near 100% clogged, which probably attributed to the fragging of my O2 sensors.
life expectancy probably a function of how well tuned the engine was during the 72K miles of operation....
