Default DELTEQ users need help!

I finally installed the Delteq kit in my 94 vette.
Evereything went smothly until removing the sparkplug wires.
Once done everything else was just work.

I started the car and it did not take long to come alive!
Then the idle became very erratic and when y depressed the accelerator the tach needle would go down or erratic, and the engine would sound as if it was working on less than 8 cylinders!

Then it would recover for a while ( seconds ), just to repeat the cycle, almost shutting down.

I have double checked instalation and have really no clue on this one. Before installing the Delteq I tested the system using a riveted rotor and Idled perfectly .
So Far no trouble codes are present so I assume that the optispark is working ok.

Any thought / suggestions on this will be great, thanks.

I am desperate and want to drive the vette!

Well at least on the tach did you remove your filter? If you don't would make your tach either non-functional or at minimum erratic. I am not sure if that would cause any other issues with the ECM.

I have had mine installed on my 94 for a year. Works great. Of course I installed it after I also replaced the opti with a new unit (optical trigger was toasted on mine, Delteq can't fix that).

If you didn't remove your tach filter on the 94, the tach needle would remain at the bottom, and not move at all. I know this, because I had the "old" directions, without the part about bypassing the filter. You do need to connect the 2 white wires at the filter together, though. This may sound like a basic question, but are you sure the plug wires are on the right coils? Read the directions carefully on this part, and know how the cylinders are numbered, as well as the coils. Other than that, I would just check for loose terminals in all of the connectors. Let us know how it goes.

yes, I bypassed the tach filter. First I used the option where you cut the white wires and connect them, leaving the black one with the filter.
Then I completely removed the filter.
The odd thing is that once I am up to 1500 -2000 rpms and up , it will sound very good, and only sometimes a knock and hesitation will be heard.

I will check again all the spark plug wires to see if I did it right. There is always an error margin but I do not think so, I was very carefull.

I am looking for comon causes of rough idle, maybe it is the IAC valve, but what is weird is that it had a nice idle when I was using the opti without the Delteq.

I will keep you all posted on this. It seems like Delteq will be a nice solution once it works fine.
Hope this does not drive me crazy before the solution is reached.

If the optical sensors in the Opti are not functioning properly, the ECM should be throwing codes. If no codes, probably safe to assume the Opti is okay.

Check for vacuum hoses that might have been left off, broken, cracked, etc while you were installing the Delteq. Also check all electrical connections to make sure they are secure. But it sounds like a vacuum leak to me.

Be well,

SJW

Thats strange. You checked to make sure all the plug wires were secure and or you didnt have a bad wire. I got a bad wire in my batch and they overnighted me a new one. Call Delteq as well they were very helpfull with me.

Thanks to all. I will consider the help offer Steven.
Peter from Delteq just answered to my doubts and is very helpful, It appears to be that this is a car that sends the info in a way the Delteq is not used to, so he is sending me another version of the optibox that will probably cure the problem.

I really hope this works because I am running out of ideas. I will keep you posted on this one. I live in Mexico city and maybe the altitude has something to do with it. We are at about 2500 mts high, that should be about 8200 feet. At least the 1/4 mile times are longer because there is not much oxigen.
Anyway, the part is coming and hope this solves the problem!
