Default NOOB... Please Help

I have an 85 Vette and just recently I've noticed that when i turn my headlights on, the Red Running lights arent on. and people are consntatly flashing their brights at me becuase they think my lights are off. Ive also noticed that my fog's dont work and the chime to remind me to turn off my lights doesnt work. All three of these things worked last week, What is the first thing i should check? or anything for that matter... Thanks ~Jason

start with the fuses... from there... it could be the switch, relays, or the sockets themselves.

At this time, you really need to purchase the Helm Factory Service Manual for your vintage... there is no way to debug these problems without it. www.helminc.com.

You might find them on ebay, too... or the CF parts forsale section.

My brother-in-law had the exact same failure on his '87 last month. His thankfully turned out to just be a bad headlight switch.

The headlight reminder chime, parking lights and tail lights are all powered by the same pole on the headlight switch. (I can't remember which one of the top of my head..sorry) If I'm not mistaking, the fog lights are also dependent upon power to the parking light circuit to work. After checking your fuses, check the headlight switch by jumping a wire across the pole for the parking/tail lights to power. With the ignition off, you should get the chime and both sets of lights to come on. If so, you know that your failure is in the switch. I'd start testing there before you dig any deeper.

There is a little disassembly needed, but it's pretty strait forward. You should have no problem once you take a close look. Feel free to shoot me a PM if you have any specific questions.
