I am really new to this. Do you know if there is scanning software to be used with Macintosh computers? I have a couple of Macs ( laptops ) and also a PC, but I really like to use Macs because the simplicity of use.
Other option would be software and interface for a Palm ( Vx ). I just need to know what is happening for now. I would not need to program, burn chips, etc. Just see it plain and simple.
I have a 94 Vette, it has a 16 pin connector (ALDL) but I belive it is OBD1.
Any suggestions are really welcome.

Ok, I get the idea! No response, that means there must be no Macintosh solution!
I'm in a similar boat, luckily the wife has a Windows XP laptop to borrow. you might consider getting the cheapest laptop you can get (say $100 with a dead battery and just use the 12v to power it) What you're wanting to do isn't exactly computer intensive.
WELL YOUR IN LUCK, I'M A MAC GUY AND LOVE THEM. I HAVE TWO MAC'S, ONE AT HOME, AND ONE AT WORK CAUSE I DON'T LIKE THE OTHERS.
HERE IS A SOFTWARE MANUFACTURE THAT HAS SOFTWARE FOR YOU SCANNER. THEY HAVE A DEMO TO DOWNLOAD TO SEE IF YOUR SCANNER WILL WORK. IF ALL GOES WELL YOU BUY RIGHT OFF THE WEB SITE.
I had to bite (byte?) the bullet and use a PC laptop. The only Mac s/w I could find was old enough that it wouldn't work with a USB port and USB/RS-232 converter, and the PC software wouldn't run under VirtualPC.
I *have*, however, seen several solutions for the Palm family. Here's one: http://www.autotap.com However, it's not the main one I used to want. Can't find that now; it's possible they went under. Here's one that someone is using with VPC: http://www.midiwall.com/4Runner/obd.html
Anyway, a cheap PC laptop (even a Win95-based one will run WinALDL just fine) is an almost necessary investment
Hey, are you kidding?
Vuescan is a software for using scanners , but the type that scans pictures!
Haha... This was good.
At any rate, the best solution on the Mac world for something like this is Microsoft Virtual PC running in many cases a Windows 98 virtual machine or something newer if your Mac is fast. I am also a Mac fan myself. For the Vette, I do have a Dell machine that I use, but have been planning to load the FAST software on an iBook using Virtual PC and Windows XP since the iBook is much smaller than my widescreen dell machine.
VPC is great as it will allow you access to the USB ports natively. Most of the computers in these cars communicate at such a slow rate that you'll have no trouble syncing with them (even though you are emulating an intel pc on your Mac).
