How to delay shift into 4th?
As I keep saying to myself that I like my 90 better, I think the thing that would keep me from buying an SSR (besides the $$$) is changing my tranny so it did not shift into 4th so quickly. I would say that it seems to shift into 4th at about 37 MPH. I have 3.73 rear and a MAD DOG tranny. These are not WOT shifts, just regular mild acceleration.
What controls the 700R4 shifting into 4th so soon and can a novice change it?
BTW - I was very impressed with the SSR. It moved very well and handled great too. I would buy one except the wife is going to draw and quarter me if I do. They had a yellow C6 right next to it, but I dared not take it for a test drive (me might like).
The stripped SSR was $37K, and they had one fully loaded (except for the wood kit) for $41.5. Only thing is that even the stripped one was pretty sparse. When I buy something in the 40's I expect climate control and a navigation system. Also the SSR only had dual air bags and I expected more (like side air bags). I guess Chevy is going for that all go and limited luxury segment.
I have heard of people getting these new SSR for low $30k's - which is just about what I think it is worth.
me decide to keep it is if the transmission could be altered so as not
to shift into 4th prematurely. I would say that it seems to shift into 4th

The Transgo p/n# is 7-4-VL. I don't see it on the Transgo site but
I do see a p/n# close to it here. An old post that discusses it appears at
the bottom of this '03 thread, it reads - "WITH TYPE 1 Valve Body, if you
want a later high throttle 3-4 upshift or higher speed 4-3 downshift,
install TRANSGO 7-4-VL special 3-4 shift valve."
The B&M p/n# appears to be BMM-70249 at Summit. Click on "B&M TH-700R4
Wide Open Throttle 3-4 Upshift Kits" for more info.
Edit: You have a '90, these valves may not be appropriate for post-'88
cars. If not, do some research to see whether similar parts exist for
later applications.
However, read the section about burned 3/4 clutches at the bottom
of this page entitled "Alter Shift Quality, When, and If It is Needed"

They run about $30
The TV cable controls line pressure vs. TPS
The govenor valve controls shift points vs. output shaft speed.
