Right now, I would say that it seems to shift into 4th at about 37 MPH. I have 3.73 rear and a MAD DOG tranny. These are not WOT shifts, just regular mild acceleration.
What kit do I need to order and what springs/weights should I change on the governor to change the 3-4 shift up to say, 50 MPH?
I would think that would be good for gas milage. What issues do you have with it that way?Is it downshifting a lot?If it is not and does not effect your WOT shifts I would try it for a while and check your gas milage you might get a pleasant surprise.Normally as I am sure you know 4th kicks in at ~45mph.I am guessing you are having a lot of shifting around town right?
Did you ask Mad Dog about it? It seems they are straight shooters and might be able to help you especially if it is still under warranty.

From what I understand, playing with different weights and springs gives different part throttle and full throttle shift points. I have run a search for this answer on many forums. It seems that no one has the exact "recipe". Swapping them out till you find the right combo seems to be the common answer.
the 700r4 doesn't have a governor. it has a throttle valve cable to control the pressure and shifts. it is attached to the throttle and can be adjusted. don't start the engine for this adjustment. there is a re-adjust tab on the cable.depress this tab and move the slider back through the fitting away from the throttle linkage until the slider stops against the fitting. release the re-adjust tab. manually turn the throttle to the wide open position.it will automatically adjust the cable. release the throttle. hope this helps. i worked on a transmission dyno and have never seen a governor on a 700r4. the 350 and the 400 had governors but they were the last g.m transmissons to have one.
Jegs has the B&M governor kit for the 700R4. Around $30. Weights change the RPM of the shift. Springs change the spacing of the shift, such as maybe you want a higher RPM in 2nd and lower in third for instance. Its trial and error though. No clear cut way to pick the combo you want.
I am sure the 700R4 has a governor. The TB cable is properly adjusted. I could care less about gas milage - I want to to move! It shifts so early into 4th it has no get up and go!
I had thought about asking Mad Dog about it. He is a great guy. I am a couple hours away and was just hoping to play with it myself.
I'll order the B&M kit and hopefully will not screw it up too bad!

Not true. I normally do not correct a statement made by another member. I respect everyones opinion. This, however, is not accurate and I don't want the origional poster chasing his tail on this.
in responce to the advise i gave about the governor. i was wrong the 700r4 does have a governor. i was getting the 4l60 and 4l60e confused. the governor controls the shifts, the throttle valve controls the pressure on the 700r4. you can control the shifts with different weights and springs. sorry for any inconvenience this caused anyone. goes to show you there are some pretty good people on here. thanks to you all for correcting me. and getting out the correct information.
