Default lt1 shorty hooker install question

ok im ready to install my hooker shorty headers on my 94 auto this weekend and im looking over the instructions and im looking at the headers and i cant decide which one goes on which side it looks like they are the same so before i go and put the left one on the right side i was thinking that maybe some of you have seen an installed set or have installed your own. I was also wondering if any of you have switched over to header studs instead of bolts, im thinking this might make it a little more easy to get to all line up. This is my first project on the 94 and i would appreciate any tips you guys could give me on how to make the install go smoother. thanks in advance for any help.

The only advise I can give is that most people here say that there is no performance benefit to putting shorties on only long tube will do anything.

I ran Hooker shorties on my 94 for two years, and they performed very well. Most on this forum think the shorties deliver very little performance improvement. But, most on this forum have never ran shorties.

My best advice on the install would be, be very patient. The Hooker shorties can be a PITA to get properly aligned.

He's in California so He's in the right place for shorties.

I have run them and yes LTs are much better but in Cali they are illegal so its a moot point.

When you install your shorties take your time. It took me forever to get them right the first time. Every bolt needed to be broken and nothing wated to come off. If the AIR ports (Holes in the middle) are coming out of 1 of the pipes it should probably be the rear or the number 5 and 6 exhaust cylinder to help make the AIR tubes fit. Its easier to bend them back than pull em out! Thats a good way to tell which side is which.

The passenger side AIR tube will fight you but you just got to play with it for a while.

Shorties really are just a bolt in replacement for the manifolds. They aren't too tough but prepair for some sore hands.

I see so many bash shorties.....but I have yet to see concrete evidence (dyno or track numbers) to suggest that they don't provide a performance increase. 7-10hp is not measurable on the "butt-o-meter"......which most on the forum use to dictate a power increase.

I have Hooker Shorties on my 92 and I installed the header with the logo on it on the pass side. As far as the AIR pipe, I found a precission welder and had him remove the 1" section out of the pipe and weld it back together. You can't even tell where he welded it. Yes you will hear the same old crowd bad mouthing the use of shortie headers, but they are much better than the stock manifolds and they keep the heat down under the hood.

Ditto. The only dyno comparison I've seen is:

Robert Velasco's GS #340
354 RWHP - 352 TQ
Shorty headers and stock GM cats
(Long tubes and no cats pulled 357 RWHP - 342 TQ)
www.grandsportregistry.com/dyno.htm

We're not likely to see more evidence one way or the other because not too many people are going to install both LTs and shorties on their car, and the percent of those who will get before/after dynos or track numbers is close to nill.

Don't know anything about the install, but, hey, how about getting us a before and after dyno.

Initially I ran Hooker shorties with the stock cats, then upgraded to EM long tubes and Dynatech Powercats. AT peak I gained 3hp/6tq, and 5-10hp/6-12tq across the rpm range. I used the same dyno, and similar weather conditions before and after.

To me these results show that I did pick up a decent amount of hp/tq with the shorties.

So glad to hear that info as myself being in the Land of Govenator I have no choice but to run shorties and I am glad to know also that others have been pleased with the temp drop and small but REAL gain they had
