Agree that if it's stuck open, idle will be effected. However, code is thrown because the heat switch doesn't ground when EGR is commanded or it remain grounded (due to heat) after startup for longer than 4 minutes - so the code may of may not have anything to do with your idle problem. You can follow the diagnostics (and should to get rid of the code), but if it's stuck open due to exhaust deposits in the manifold, the only way to check it is to remove it.
