The VSS sending the code, is a part of the instrument panel (IP), not the device hanging off the back of your transmission. Basically it tells the ECM the vehicle speed which it uses, primarily, to engage the TCC. Transmission life, due to excess heat, and fuel mileage would be the most noticeable symptoms. There is a trouble shooting chart in your factory service manual to isolate and repair the cause.
So are you saying that once my instrument cluster is repaired all will be ok???
By the way, what is the TCC?
No, the ECM gets its signal for VSS from the same place as the cluster, not from the cluster itself. You have either a wiring problem between the VSS & ECM or the VSS is bad.
TCC= Torque Converter Control, that is the solenoid that locks/unlocks the torque converter. Not a good thing to run without the converter locked up when it is supposed to be.

Absolutely not. If I was saying that, I'd have said that. I'm saying, "There is a trouble shooting chart in your factory service manual to isolate and repair the cause.". You can save yourself a lot of time and trouble if you utilize it.
TCC = Torque Converter Clutch.
